Informix Database Engineer - Design, implement, maintain, control, monitor and administer data bases in a client/server environment requiring documentation of access methods, access time, security, validation checks and table space management. Develop and maintain data dictionaries and entity relationship diagrams for all internal databases. Create and maintain multiple database instances as required. Responsible for the evaluation, selection, installation and use of DBMS utilities. Monitor database performance and make adjustments as required for optimize performance and efficiency. Analyze system processes and workflow capabilities seek ways for greater efficiency, productivity and quality. Evaluate client requests for new or modified applications to determine feasibility, cost/time requirement and system compatibility. Collaborate with the network and system administrators to ensure proper database back up procedures and disaster recovery plans. Establish and maintain database design and usage standards. Perform routine audits to ensure database integrity and report any issues and/or concerns promptly. Assist in the development and enforcement of security policies and procedures. Assist in the development and enforcement of policies and procedures for managing data as a strategic resource. Document policies, procedures, logic and coding as developed. Develop and produce ad hoc reports or Perl reports as needed by clients. Consult with users to identify current operating procedures and clarify operation objectives. Support and provide information and assistance to internal and external end users. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals, respond to questions and concerns from customers, clients or members of management. Ability to write articles and memos for internal publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to management, clients, customers and coworkers MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. REQUIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: BS/BA and 3+ years experience in programming, and/or database systems analysis including INFORMIX database software, Unix operating systems, MS Office tools and database administration in a client/server environment. DESIRED SKILLS: Computer Science degree. AIX experience. Experience developing and producing ad hoc or Perl reports.
