The calendar of 360 days is used extensively in the financial industry so that each month has exactly the same number of days. This has to do with the way interest and bond payments and the like are calculated. Its one of the things that Dr. Stonebraker used to show why extensibility matters. The ANSI SQL date-time arithmetic doesn't work for the financial community. So the real question is how many other calendars will MS choose to include in their product. In IDS.2000, I can define as many different calendars as required: Jewish, Chinese, etc.. MS has finally realized that SQL Server can't compete in some markets because certain require functions are missing.
