Re: IDS Alert -> Mobile Phone Text Message

Mr Creosote Most mobile phone or pager companies have a website from which you can "email" pages to them. The one we use (Skytel) even has a mail-to-page interface, so if your pager number was 12345678, then you could email your pager at 12345678@skytel.com. We use this feature to send pages from our application when it encounters a sticky situation it cant handle. The mailer is basically a java program which uses the netscape messaging sdk to do this. I also have an alarm router program written in lex/yacc which allows you to set up fairly complicated scenarios as to which pager should be paged when, which is called by a perl script, and based on the output of the alarm router, the java program is invoked with the appropriate alarm string and the pager number (or email address). Let me know if you need more details. I am UK-based and would like a similar mechanism but have the ALARMPROGRAM send a Text Message to a mobile 'phone (porbably via email?) - any ideas anyone ? I have no problems generating email messages from our Informix server. I am aware that www.breathe.com (amongst others I am sure) offers this free service but it currently needs manually entered text - i.e. cannot be driven by an email.
