Quick question re PHYSFILE
Posted in 2000
Hi All,
We are running IDS 7.23.UC11 on RS/6000 AIX 4.3.2.
We have been getting messages in the message log:
12:27:13 WARNING! Physical Log size 8000 is too small. Physical Log overflows may occur during peak activity.
Recommended minimum Physical Log size is 20 times
maximum concurrent user threads.
I have recently increased PHYSFILE as per the Admin Guide and
am waiting to see...
Question:
--------------
The top portion of an onstat -l --->
INFORMIX-OnLine Version 7.23.UC11 -- On-Line -- Up 00:57:34 --
109024 Kbytes
Physical Logging
Buffer bufused bufsize numpages numwrits pages/io
P-1 0 16 1 1 1.00
phybegin physize phypos phyused %used
10157d 3000 0 0 0.00
1) My understanding is that the %used is the % of pages currently
being used. Is there anywhere a 'maximum pages ever used' for
physical log? [ I have seen a upf_logspmax in SMI table sysrstcb
being "max % of logspace ever used" for logical logs as indicated
in sysmaster.sql [thanks Art, for pointing that file out] but nothing
for physical log ??? ]
2) What is the threshold percentage full of physical log space that
will trigger a "WARNING! Physical Log size nnn is too small."
message??
Thanks and regards,
Dale Spence.
