Error creating table
A user on Red Hat 9 with IDS 9.40.UC4 got "261: Cannot create file for table" plus "131: ISAM error: no free disk space" on a simple CREATE TABLE, despite having 1GB free at the OS level. Posting 'onstat -d' showed the problem: rootdbs was the only regular dbspace (the other was a blobspace, which can't hold table pages) and its chunks had only a handful of free pages left — far less than the 8-16 pages needed for a new table's first extent. Art Kagel advised adding a chunk to rootdbs or creating a new dbspace via onspaces/onmonitor; the poster confirmed it then worked. Lack of contiguous space for the first extent was also mentioned as a possible cause.

Try
running onstat -d and see if you have a dbspace that is full. You

statement exactly as you entered it, the output of 'onstat -d', and the output
of the following SQL:

(blob spaces cannot hold table pages), is 150000 pages in size and has only one
free page (2K). The minimum space needed for a new table is 8 pages and the
default (you are using the defaults) size is 16 pages. You do not have any more
space available to create tables or expand existing ones, the error message is
correct. You have to use onspaces or onmonitor to add another chunk to the
root dbspace or to create another dbspace to hold this table.

Please check the First extent size for the table.
There may by total 1GB free on dbspace, but might not
have contiguous free disk space for the first extent.
