Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A poster asked whether point-in-time recovery of a database or dbspace is possible with a single instance. Art S. Kagel said OnBar can restore to any point in time on one instance by stopping log restore at the chosen point. Ray Margarella noted it requires OnBar rather than ontape. Leonids Voroncovs said only the whole server can be restored to a point in time; one dbspace can only be restored to the latest time.

Hello again,
I've just come across an article in technotes that mentions point-in-
time recovery of a database/dbspace. It doesn't go into any depth so
I'm asking if this is possible, and if so how. I'm sure it can be
achieved using a 2 instances (on different machines), but am interested
if it is possible using a single instance.
Thanks as always for your help

Read the Backup and Restore Guide covering OnBar. OnBar can restore to any
point-in-time, obviously after the base archive the restore begins with, by
scanning the logs as they are being restored, stopping logical log restore
at the appropriate point and then entering the engine into fast recovery to
commit and rollback transactions in the logs.
Only one server instance required.

you have to be using Informix-OnBar as the backup utility, not ontape.
OnBar came out in version 7.2X I believe.....

You can restore in point-in-time the whole server only.
One dbspace can be restored in latest time only.
This is because all dbspaces must be in consistency with rootdbs.

If so how?
