RE: SRTxxx: the trouble with Tribbles?

I do not want to open a flame session on this subject, so I will not respond to any follow up email. - That is my disclaimer!!!! The Manuals are incorrect on this subject. Informix will create sort and work files on 7.x engines in a file system directory. I had a Informix SE spend about a two weeks reviewing this process on a project, with input from Informix Tech support. The PSORT_DBTEMP variable needs to be set to a LARGE file system directory, or increase "/tmp"'s size, because the engine will create files when needed some place, you just want to control where of the two places it will occurs. Nothing you can do about creating the files, just control where they go. Wayne E. The default is "/tmp" if it is not set. Thanks guys. According to the Performance Guide, sort files should go to the dbspaces specified in DBSPACETEMP. Although we have a DBSPACETEMP defined, the tempdbspace is completely empty, so it looks like something's gone pearshaped somewhere. I'll apply the trusty sysadmin's 4lb lump hammer to the side of the machine and see if that fixes it.
