Please read what other posters have written
This is strictly pragmatic
We big batchs like that:
Copy all tables to dummy_xxx (xxx is the orig tablename), dummy_xxx and
xxx have excatly the same column layout. Then create all needed
indexes dummy_yyy per dummy_xxx table.
Then we do a test with n-thousand (partial load from the orig. unloads)
records for the statement to be used
and watch for LogSwitches (onstat -l before & after).
We tune n-thousand to get near our LTXHWM (the percentage used to check
if it is a long transaction).
From there we estimate the actual need of LLpartitions by
(real number of rows / n-thousand) * number of LLpartitions neede by the test
Then we check if this fits into (total no of LLpartitions * 0,01 * LTXHWM) + 2
[ +2 for savety; our LLpartitions are rather many and small
{64 times 5120 pages } ]
We always get the job done without problems, although it is sometimes
necessary to allocate many additional LLpartitions.
Let me add that we use another size (5104 pages) for "temporary" LLs, only
needed during some batch job.
They are easy to find for drop after the event by their size.
LLpartitions is NO official term, in the $ONCONFIG these beasts are
called LogFiles
