Informix doesnt automatically Squash the data files,
if you have a look (at least on some of the later versions
of informix) you'll find that the index size often INCREASES
due to a "free node list". Informix will use re-use this space
as required - but if you want to shrink it in the meantime the
two things you can do :
1)
unload the data to a file
generate a schema for the table (dbschema)
drop the table (be careful that you actually HAVE the data)
re-create the table
load the data back from the file
2)
alter one of the main indexes to CLUSTER
alter index idxname to cluster
I think this regenerates the table then
alter index idxname to not cluster
should set it back to the way it was
