Memory problems? Please help.

I'm running data conversion routines on SCO UNIX 5.05 using Informix v7. They used to be executed during a shell script containing abotu 30 programs. However, this was poor for maintenance and distribution so one exe was compiled and the routines seem to get slower and slower as each function is called. Prepared statements are freed and the routines seem optimal. What have I missed. How does Informix manage memory? Cheers.

When you free statements, the memory isn't actually freed to the system, it's just unallocated for the program to use again. Check top or whatever you have to view memory statistics. This will tell you if the problem is really a memory issue. Have you updated statistics recently? How's you box set up? -- # unrm / ksh: unrm: not found # man cpio Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.
Monitor the exe using ps and see if the memory is increasing, if it is then review the code and start releasing or re-using the memory Vincent Kennedy wrote: > > I'm running data conversion routines on SCO UNIX 5.05 using Informix v7. > > They used to be executed during a shell script containing abotu 30 programs. > However, this was poor for maintenance and distribution so one exe was > compiled and the routines seem to get slower and slower as each function is > called. > > Prepared statements are freed and the routines seem optimal. I did free all prepared cursors.
I don't think the version I'm using allows 'onstat'. It doesn't understand
this.
Cheers.
