RE: shared memory not initialized
Posted in 2007
You didn't need to run oninit -v the second time, the first time
(oninit -ivy) was enough. The second time around it tries to pop memory
back in the same place as the last one. Check if the first one is still
running:
onstat -
It probably is.
If not, then you may have corrupted memory with the second oninit -v (I
don't see anything in the error to suggest that) and may want to reboot
rather than attempt to clean up memory.
Now that you have done the oninit -i - you do not need to do it again (think
format c:), from now on you can startup with oninit, or oninit -v if
debugging. Shutdown with onmode -yuk.
If you want just tcp connectivity, then change the sqlhosts entry:
sqlhosts:
informixserver onsoctcp informix sqlexec
/etc/services:
sqlexec 1526/tcp # informixserver

rootdbs did not exist.. I thought oninit -i would create it.
I touched it and chown/chgrp/chmoded it.
I double checked the enviornment vars, they look good.
I then ran oninit -ivy and got:
[root@informix informix]# oninit -ivy

which looks bad.
Now, you said that some people run with out shared memory. since generally i
will be connecting from another system via tcp, would i be a canidate to be
one of those other people?
If i were to give up on shared memory, and go at it via network, how would i
change the configs?

Does /opt/informix/dbs/rootdbs exist?
It also needs to have permissions of 660 and be owned by informix:informix
Also, when you oninit, use oninit -v - that will print more detailed
status
messages to the screen while it boots. Of course if you are iniitlizing,
that would become oninit -ivy.
