Oninit® Informix Analyser — For Management
Every hour your senior DBAs spend manually correlating logs, assertion failures, and onstat outputs is an hour they aren't spending on the work that needs them. Most Informix estates are running on a small number of irreplaceable people, and most of what those people do during an investigation is mechanical — reading logs, cross-referencing timestamps, comparing configuration against best practice. The Analyser does the mechanical part.
The business case
| Lever | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Faster diagnosis | Engineers see a prioritised, evidence-linked finding list — not a stack of raw logs to read end-to-end. Mean time to resolution drops; senior people are freed for the work that genuinely needs their judgement, not the work that anyone with the rule set can do. |
| Consistent quality | Every analysis runs the same expert rule set. The quality of a diagnostic does not depend on which engineer happened to be on call. Rules are version-controlled; improvements compound across every customer engagement that follows. |
| Long-term intelligence | Persistent context (Basic and above) means each engagement builds on the last. Recurring drift, latent configuration risks, and slow-moving capacity trends become visible across months — not lost between investigations. |
| No project to deploy | The Analyser is a managed service, not a product you install. Your team uploads data; you get reports. No agent rollout, no rules engine to operate, no schema change anywhere in your estate. Time to value is measured in hours, not weeks. |
| Tiered to fit | Start free for one collection. Move to Basic, Pro, or Enterprise as the engagement scales. Enterprise adds dedicated capacity, SLA-backed performance, RBAC, and custom quotas (200 GB+) for estates that need it. |
Why Oninit
Oninit has supported the global Informix community for two decades as "the Down System Specialists." When other people's Informix instances are down at three in the morning, Oninit is who they call. The Analyser is built and supported by the same team — the diagnostic intuition encoded as testable, reviewable Prolog source so your team gets the benefit without needing to keep an Oninit consultant on retainer.
Risk profile
The Analyser is read-only with respect to the customer database. It does not run on the customer host. It does not connect to the customer database remotely. It does not modify any data, change any configuration, or restart any service. The only material the Analyser touches is the diagnostic output the customer voluntarily uploads.
Confidentiality: every submission is scoped to its own ULID-addressed storage area; cross-customer access is structurally prevented. Reports are not shared with third parties. Detailed compliance documentation is available under NDA on request.
What it removes from your risk register
- "We can't diagnose Informix issues fast enough — too much data, too few people who can read it."
- "Two engineers look at the same diagnostic and reach different conclusions."
- "We lose the context of last quarter's investigation by the time the same problem returns."
- "Our most senior people spend their week on the mechanical part of diagnosis instead of the judgement part."
- "Our Informix expertise lives in one or two heads; if either leaves, we're exposed."
Next step
A 30-minute scoping call covers the diagnostic data your team already collects, what you'd want a first-pass analysis to surface, and which tier matches the scale of your estate. The output of the call is a working trial in front of a non-production instance the same week.
