Hi Listers,
[Denmark Weatherburn]
I've inserted screen output below of an ontape restore for one dbspace only.
Please tell me if I'm not doing something correctly.
I restored with IDS online. This dbspace has one database.
However, It might also have some indexes from another database in another
dbspace that was online. Although there was no activity on this database.
bbankbz{spsusr}/export/home/SXXICORE/spsusr>ontape -r -D sxxicoredbs
DBspace 'sxxicoredbs' is online; restoring 'sxxicoredbs' will bring all
chunks
comprising the DBspace OFFLINE and will terminate all active
transactions and queries accessing the DBspace.
OK to continue?y
Please mount tape 1 on /export/home/informix/Backups/ontape and press Return
to
continue ...

You did not roll forward the logical logs. In the dbspace table on the server
is
recorded the logical log number and position needed to bring that dbspace to a
consistent state. Your archive began on an earlier log number and so when the
restore completed the engine marked the dbspace to state 'I' inconsistent. If
you
are recovering from user error, rather than some disk failure, and do not want
the
logs rolled forward you have to contact tech support now to force the chunk to
be
online. Otherwise start the restore all over again and this time roll the logs
forward.

You can only bring back a dbspace on-line (O)
if you have backed up the logical log files and
give it to ontape when you restore the dbspace.
Otherwise the restore will leave the dbspace in
Incompatible state.
YES, this behaviour is perhaps too strict in some
situation.
