RE: KAIO - out of OS resources ..any idea

We used to have this problem with our Sequent boxes, there was a kernel parameter that need to be tweaked. I don't remember the parameter but you should ask you SA.
Hope this helps!

Hello,
I had the same problem as you. As Macl said in his Reply, you just have
to set the IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ variable upper than the actual value.
This variable must be set before the online start.
There I give you the extract from my release notes :
---------------------------------------------------------------------
An environment variable IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ is provided to specify
the number of simultaneous KAIO requests that are processed by the
server at one time. The value can be set in the range of 10 to 5000,
the default being 1000. If the error
"KAIO: out of OS resources, errno = %d, pid = %d" occurs,
consider increasing the value of IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ.
IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ=2300; export IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ
(for Bourne or Korn Shell)
setenv IFMX_HPKAIO_NUM_REQ 2300 (for C Shell)
---------------------------------------------------------------------

Before you buy.
OK, sorry, the reply I posted was HP-specific.
I can't find 7.31FC6 in the Informixtechinfo pages, but here is the an
extract from the release notes for 7.20UC3, with a relevant paragraph:
<EXTRACT FOLLOWS>
16. Known Defect(s)
1. Bug No: 40041
Short Description : DEC 7.10.UD1 FAILS AT CHECKPOINT WITH ERROR
"KAIO: OUT OF OS RESOURCES, ERRNO = 35, PID
= 789"
Long Description : During a checkpoint, using 7.1.UD1 of the
Digital
Unix port under osf/1 3.2, we repeatedly see
the
following message in the online.log file:
11:10:49 KAIO: out of OS resources, errno =
35,
pid = 789
Two workarounds for bug 40041:
1. Do not use kernel AIO. Use informix AIO.
set an environment variable KAIOOFF to 1 before you bring up the
server.
2. Increase the size of AIO status array and set OS kernel
parameter.
By default, kernel parameter aio-max-num is 64. The user needs to
increase this to a bigger number and reboot the machine.
The user need to set an environment variable IFMXDECMAXAIO to 128
or
even bigger before bringing up the server. (kernel parameter
aio-max-num has to be greater than or equal to this value).
The default value is 64 which is same as 7.10.UD1
The Maximum value is 256.
* This defect is scheduled to be fixed in the next release
<END OF EXTRACT>
So, seeing as you're using 7.31FC6 and the above notes for 7.20 say
it's due to be fixed in a future release, I guess Informix may have
screwed up a bit ......
Anyway, check in your machine-specific notes for a corresponding
description, and if it ain't there, call up your friendly Informix rep
and BLAST THE HELL OUT OF HIM!!!!
Otherwise, set up the IFMXDECMAXAIO parameter as suggested.
HTH
