Connection problems to 5.x - Please Help

Hi all, I'm having some big problems getting a vb app (using CLI/ODBC) to connect to a UNIX server running Informix online 5.01. Here is the situation. I am getting error -945 (client is not known to database server) when I try to connect. So...I added myself to the .rhosts file on the unix server but, to complicate things more, I'm on a DHCP network which means that my IP is assigned and may be different each time. Now the chances of me getting the system administrators to add an entry for the whole range of IP's that my machine could be are quite slim. Consequently, even with my entry in .rhosts I can't get in. And even if I did add all of these IP's to the hosts file, that is just me, development. This will also be a problem for the users of this app(if I ever actually get to write it). I can't be the only one with this configuration.
