The drop of the table should immediately free up the smart blob
pages. Oddly enough I did my own quick test on 11.50.FC5 on solaris
and created a small table, loaded it with some smart blobs, then
dropped it. I also noticed that my free pages didn't go up. It was
boggling me. I also couldn't run an oncheck -pe on that smart blob
space. I then decided to exit dbaccess and for some odd reason it
popped up the "commit/rollback" option box (as if I had an open
transaction). I picked commit. Then rechecked my onstat -d output
and now the pages were freed. And now that the locks were gone, my
oncheck -pe also ran fine. I was in a logged database, not mode ansi, but it appears as though somehow my dbaccess may have done an
explicate begin work for me (as if it was a mode ansi database). You
didn't mention if you were dropping the table in dbaccess or not, but
I wonder if something similar may have happened to you, and then I
wonder if when you exited dbaccess you rolled back the work and didn't
end up dropping your table at all.
I repeated my test a 2nd and 3rd time and I did not experience the
transaction issue. My dbaccess commands were implicit transactions as
they should have been since I was in a logged database, but non-mode
ansi, and I didn't execute my own being work statement. So I"m
wondering if there is some odd dbaccess bug in 11.50.FC5.
