Connecting PC apps to 7.31 engine
Hi, I'm somewhat rusty in the Informix world, but I need to get back up to speed pretty quickly by connecting a WinXP PC to an existing Sun server with 7.31.UD1 engine (on a customer's site!) and I'd appreciate any help you're able to give. I've had some Win95/98 PCs connected for many years using an equally ancient Client SDK, but I'm guessing that this version won't be up to XP. Will the latest Connect from the IBM site do the business against that ancient engine? Sorry, an engine update is totally out of the question. Of course, whether the W95/98 applications will run under XP is another question entirely! Many thanks, Andy.
Hi, As far as I know, the actual Client SDK should be able to connect to a 7.31 instance without problems. In case you have the ability to rebuild the old applications from source or perform a re-link, this should run without problems. In case these are pre-linked, it is worth a try either to run with new SDK runtime DLLs or find out if the old SDK runs in XP. The only problem could occur if you have a 16bit app ... You should be able to work with your IDS 7.31 server using CSDK 3.00. This is mentioned in CSDK 3.00 release notes.
