hey guys, recently our Informix server shutdown abnormally two days in a roll with the following error message on the log file. 09:03:49 Logical Log 32012 - Backup Completed 09:04:31 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 14 seconds. 09:09:01 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 13 seconds. 09:09:01 Aborting Long Transaction: tx 0xd02482b8 username: product uid: 2107 09:11:31 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 6 seconds. 09:11:32 Informix Dynamic Server Stopped. 09:24:47 Segment locked: addr=0xd35bc000, size=290979840 Any idea what causing this ? Add. info, we're running on HP K580 with MCServiceGuard installed which means when the failure detected on app., informix or hardware then it will automatically switch over to standby machine. Regards,
It looks more like an impatient person shutting down the engine 'cos it was in the middle of rolling something back. I'd add more log space and/or split the transaction into smaller bits Lee Kwong Hong wrote: > > hey guys, > > recently our Informix server shutdown abnormally two days in a roll with > the following error message on the > log file. > > 09:03:49 Logical Log 32012 - Backup Completed > 09:04:31 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 14 seconds. > 09:09:01 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 13 seconds. > 09:09:01 Aborting Long Transaction: tx 0xd02482b8 username: product uid: > 2107 > 09:11:31 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 6 seconds. > 09:11:32 Informix Dynamic Server Stopped. > 09:24:47 Segment locked: addr=0xd35bc000, size=290979840 > > Any idea what causing this ? > > Add. info, we're running on HP K580 with MCServiceGuard installed which > means when the failure detected > on app., informix or hardware then it will automatically switch over to > standby machine. > > Regards, -- Paul Watson # WF Software Ltd # You are only young once Tel: +44 1436 674729 # but you can be immature Fax: +44 1436 678693 # for ever www.wfsoftware.com #
The events logged in your message log (below) seem to indicate that something external is bringing down Informix. After all, the transaction appear to have been running since at least 9:03, the long trx. was detected at 9:09, Informix was stopped at 9:11, a bit short for a rollback (though not impossible). Maybe, the "long transaction" causes your Application to "fail" in the eyes of MCServiceGuard and triggers a switchover? BTW, why would one configure MCSG to switchover when Informix or the App fail (without an accompanying HW failure)? Typically, one would have identical software on the Standby machine that should result in the same failure, isn't it?
