Here is one weird problem for you informix folk out there.
l am in the process of upgrading one of the banking application for the
third time. The application is using INFORMIX-SE engine, and develop in =
INFORMIX 4GL RDS. In this upgrade, more tables are added to the =
database, and some table structures are altered. More global variables =
and program modules are added to the 4gi. In addition, there are 2 =
global files...some of the varibles & records are defined in both files =
but with the same size. l also upgraded the fglgo runner with several =
new C programs. The new 4gi after relinked failed to run with an error =
code -1114, i.e. no form has been displayed. The strange thing is that =
the error occurs at line 0. Below are some of the steps that l have =
tried to overcome the problem:
1. The new 4gi can run =
a. within the debugger without any sign of errors.
b. with a =91display=92 statement inserted at the very beginning of the
program inside the main =
c. using the construct =91fglgo -d xxx.4gi=92
2. The new 4gi cannot run
a. using any of the following construct - =91fglgo xxx.4gi=92, =
=91fglgo -a xxx.4gi=92, =91fglgo -anyerr xxx.4gi=92,
=91fglgo -a -anyerr xxx.4gi=92
b. even with the =91display=92 statement inserted in some of the 4gi,
not all.
3. Another solution is to reduce the number of global variables, though
it is not that much anyway. This solution however is a temporary
measures only. When l add one extra small program to the 4gi, the =
problem appears again.
Similarly, another way out is to break down the 4gi into many smaller =
4gi. This approach guarantee to work. But according Informix Support
Centre, a 650 KB 4gi with 35 over 4go=92s is hardly considered =91big=92=
at
all; no need to break down the 4gi.
Can the problem be in the use of 2 global files, with some variables & =
records being defined in both files, even though it is of the same size? =
Is there any conflict when link & run in this manner? =
Does anyone have any ideas, or has encountered such a problem before? =
Please help!!!!
