sh.addShard
Posted in 2015
Frank (IDS 12.10.FC4 on RHEL) got "command failed -- undefined server (37)" from the Mongo shell's sh.addShard(), with online logs showing ER auto-configuration aborting (CDR GC sync/define remote server failed, rc=37). Nagaraju explained that sh.addShard internally runs 'cdr autoconfig server', which rewrites the sqlhosts group entries; pre-existing ER group entries were the conflict. After removing them and rerunning, addShard returned {ok:1} and 'cdr list server' showed both nodes Active/Connected; Erika confirmed success and pointed to sh.shardCollection as the next step. A later db.createCollection failure (-310/-212, "no such DBspace") is left unresolved in the thread.

Hello, IDS 12.10 FC4 RHEL Linux Used MongoDB shell to create a Shard. Did a bunch of configurations, setup, tests...... Eventually, I am stuck here, mongos> sh.addShard("leslie-dat:9171") { "code" : null, "ok" : 0, "errmsg" : "command failed -- undefined server (37) " } mongos> I run the above sh.addShard command in mongo shell. I found sh.addShard() will cause both local and remote sqlhosts to be
modified.
This is the example,
Original sqlhosts file,
========================
g_ncdcopsjson group - - i=11
ncdcopsjson_tcp onsoctcp leslie-dat online9171
g=g_ncdcopsjson
g_nsofopsjson group - - i=12
nsofopsjson_tcp onsoctcp maggie-dat online9171
g=g_nsofopsjson
nsofopsjson onipcshm maggie-dat serviceopsjson
Modified by Informix after running sh.addShard,
========================
g_ncdcopsjson group - - i=11
nsofopsjson onipcshm maggie-dat serviceopsjson
g_nsofopsjson group - - i=12
g_nsofopsjson_tcp group - - i=13
nsofopsjson_tcp onsoctcp maggie-dat online9171
g=g_nsofopsjson_tcp
g_ncdcopsjson_tcp group - - i=14
ncdcopsjson_tcp onsoctcp leslie-dat 9171
g=g_ncdcopsjson_tcp
Any idea why the sqlhosts need be modified ? Avoidable ?
Thanks

Hi Frank,
sh.addShard() internally run 'cdr autoconfig server' command.
This command sets up sqlhosts file for group entries. Since you already
have ER group entries defined for local server in your SQLHOSTS files, its
probably causing problem with ER auto configuration. Can you pls. remove
existing group entries in your SQLHOSTS file and rerun sh.addShard()
command ?
Thanks & Regards,
Nagaraju

HI,
I think I managed to get it run to some extent.... Some observations
and questions.
(1) mongodb shell response,
mongos> sh.addShard("leslie-dat:9171")
{ "ok" : 1, "name" : "g_ncdcopsjson_tcp" }
mongos>
The above output is Success, correct ?
(2) Online log of both local and remote sites,
Local log,
15:25:43 ER checkpoint logid:6 logpos:0x10c785b4
15:25:43 DDR Log Snooping - Snooping started in log 6
15:25:58 RESYNC: Setting Replicate 32792 to Normal mode
15:25:58 CDR Grouper: Grouper evaluation blocked
15:25:58 CDR Grouper: Grouper evaluation unblocked
15:26:16 ER task ifx_sync_g_ncdcopsjson_tcp successfully completed
cdr check replicateset ifx_internal_set
15:26:26 SMX thread is exiting
15:30:56 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
Remote log,
15:25:49 ER checkpoint logid:7 logpos:0xeec8018
15:25:49 DDR Log Snooping - Snooping started in log 7
15:25:53 CDR GC: synchronization complete
15:25:58 RESYNC: Setting Replicate 32792 to Normal mode
15:25:58 CDR Grouper: Grouper evaluation blocked
15:25:58 CDR Grouper: Grouper evaluation unblocked
15:26:23 SMX thread is exiting because it received a CLOSE message from a
remote server
15:31:12 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
The log info told me success or some warning or errors ?
(3) About sqlhosts files
Apparently, it will do massive shuffled of your existing sqlhosts ( could
be modified in unexpected ways.... careful )
It only prefers a minimal or bare line of host definition ( exiting
defined working lines could be messed up)
I am also very curious, it could stripe the port service column, e.g,
from "online9171" to "9171" . The following is a example,
The modified sqlhosts files,
nsofopsjson onipcshm maggie-dat serviceopsjson
g_nsofopsjson_tcp group - - i=1
nsofopsjson_tcp onsoctcp maggie-dat online9171
g=g_nsofopsjson_tcp
g_ncdcopsjson_tcp group - - i=2
ncdcopsjson_tcp onsoctcp leslie-dat 9171
g=g_ncdcopsjson_tcp
The last line actually was ,
ncdcopsjson_tcp onsoctcp leslie-dat online9171
g=g_ncdcopsjson_tcp
(4) cdr list server outputs of local and remote node,
[informix@maggie etc]$ cdr list server
SERVER ID STATE STATUS QUEUE CONNECTION CHANGED
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
g_ncdcopsjson_tcp 2 Active Connected 0 Mar 20 15:25:52
g_nsofopsjson_tcp 1 Active Local 0
[informix@leslie etc]$ cdr list server
SERVER ID STATE STATUS QUEUE CONNECTION CHANGED
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
g_ncdcopsjson_tcp 2 Active Local 0
g_nsofopsjson_tcp 1 Active Connected 0 Mar 20 15:25:51
So, based on above overall info, the shard is created successful or not ?
Thanks
frank

Hi Frank, mongos> sh.addShard("leslie-dat:9171") { "ok" : 1, "name" : "g_ncdcopsjson_tcp" } This does indicate success. {ok: 1} means success. {ok: 0} would indicate a failure and would be accompanied by a errmsg field in the response document. The sh.addShard command adds the server specified to the sharded env. The next step would be to run sh.shardCollection to actually shard your various collections/tables. If you need more info on sh.shardCollection, here's a link to that topic in the Informix Knowledge Center. http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGU8G_12.1.0/com.ibm.json.doc/ids _json_036.htm?lang=en Thanks, Erika
OK. I tried to create a collection,
mongos> db.createCollection("my_collection_1");
{
"code" : null,
"ok" : 0,
"errmsg" : "Unable to create table 'my_collection_1' for namespace
'noaa.my_collection_1' | Table (informix.my_collection_1) already exists in
database. (SQL Code: -310, SQL State: S0001)"
}
mongos>
-310 Table table-name already exists in database.
310 error is confusing...., it was a brand new name!!
Log of Json listener is attached. Seems it actually complained: no such
DB space (-212 Cannot add index.) , for index creation .
I also attached the onstat -d output .
No sure what need to fix, what db space I need add ?
Thanks
Frank

ahead to insert data....

(expression) {"name":"Anne"}
(expression) {"age":41.000000}
(expression) {"name":"Anne_2"}

So, it seems the work can be done there ... But the previous error can
be ignored ??

When you create a collection, a unique index on the _id field is also automatically created. It seems that your collection table was created successfully but the index creation failed. You might want to check what your default sbspace is set to. Otherwise, if you restart the listener with -loglevel debug, it will also print out the actual SQL statement to the listener log. That should tell you where it is trying create the index. Now technically, having a unique index on the _id field is not required in Informix. The listener does it to be Mongo compatible. So if you don't really care about that index, you don't have to recreate it. However, you should still resolve the underlying error because otherwise you'll run into it again. Thanks, Erika
HI, Erika,
Thanks for the info.
This error was from mongo shell,
-310 Table table-name already exists in database.
This two errors were from jsonlistener log,
-212 Cannot add index.
-130 ISAM error: no such dbspace.
The above three errors do not make any sense to me.
The first error was telling table already exists, NOT true.
The second and third error said no such dbspace. What dbspace did it
want ?
I attached the configuration about SB spaces, also onstat -d ( you can
have a check what else needed).
The SQL who complained is in the log of jsonlistener ( see log)
Thanks
Frank
