There were some funny games on SCO systems where /dev/tcp or somesuch
was missing but being looked for -- there was typically another device,
something like /dev/net/tcp instead, and you needed to do a symlink so
that /dev/tcp points to /dev/net/tcp.
Only I'm working from vague memory, so the names are probably wrong.
If you have truss or another system call monitor program, try running
that on oninit (truss -o oninit.out $INFORMIXDIR/bin/oninit) to see what
device the software is failing to open. You then need to poke around to
see what device you need to use instead -- and there's no guarantee that
the filename component is the same.
You might also look on your system to see what errno 24 means; on
Solaris 7, it means to many open files, so you may have a kernel
configuration problem rather than a missing device file.
