RENAME CHUNK'S PATH
Posted in 2003
A user wanted to rename Informix chunk paths (to change the SAP SID embedded in the path). An IBM responder said chunk paths can't be changed in versions before 9.4; from 9.4 you can rename a chunk path during a restore. Several SAP shops replied that SAPDBA handles this routinely when refreshing QA/dev from production: menu option b) dbspaces, f) rename chunk paths, which rewrites the reserved pages. Caveats noted: the option is missing from the 64-bit SAPDBA (use the 32-bit binary, which SAP support says works), and SAP Note 0191314 describes the manual procedure, to be done carefully.

Hello, Luis; You cannot change a chunk path. In v9.4 you can rename a chunk path during a restore, but prior to v9.4 the device path is not changeable. HTH... If this is a SAP installation, SAPDBA can be used to rename the chunks. This is standard when refreshing QAS, TRN, and/or DVL from PRD. There is one problem. You need the 32-bit SAPDBA version since the option is missing from the 64-bit SAP version. You can also use the SAP Note but you need to be careful since it proceeded the SAPDBA option. >From: "Kokane Raje...." <Rajesh.Kokane@kwa2.siemens.co.in> >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: RE: RENAME CHUNK'S PATH [729] Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 22:00:39 >-0500 (EST) > >WE did the same thing last year, We have changed the sid of prd system to >quality server. It is option 'f' on the dbspaces (option b) on main menu for the 32-bit SAP version. This option is missing on the 64-bit version. SAP Support indicates that 32-bit version will work. It does. We use a special copy each time QAS, TRN, and/or DVL is refreshed from PRD. >From: "Rajasekaran...." <RRajasekaran@forestpharm.com> >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: RE: RENAME CHUNK'S PATH [727] Date: Fri, 14 Mar 2003 15:22:36 >-0500 (EST) > >In case if you use SAP, SAPDBA tool allows to you rename chunk paths on = >the >reserved pages without any hassles. > >Rajesh Rajasekaran >Informix Database Administrator >Forest Pharmaceuticals Inc. >314-493-7073 (Work) >314-662-6619 (Cell) >314-514-2457 (Home)=20 > > >-----Original Message----- >From: Michael Lowe [mailto:mlowe0@us.ibm.com] >Sent: Friday, March 14, 2003 1:18 PM >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: Re: RENAME CHUNK'S PATH [725]=20 > > > > > > >Hello, Luis; > >You cannot change a chunk path. >In v9.4 you can rename a chunk path during a restore, but prior to v9.4 = >the >device path is not changeable. > >HTH... >Mike >=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-= >=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D-=3D >Mike Lowe >Certified Consulting Education Specialist >Data Management Solutions >IBM Software Group >Tel: 303-773-5216 Tie Line: 565-5216 >e-Fax: 413-674-2415 >mlowe0@us.ibm.com >WWW: ibm.com/software/data > > > >Hi Friends. > > >Does anyone know how to rename a chunk path, I wan't to change the SID = >in >the path. > > >Thanks in advance > > >Luis Arturo L=F3pez Caballero >Proyecto ASARE - Modulo Base >Mexico D.F. >Tel. 01(55)52294400 Ext. 85705 > > > > > > > > > > _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
