Creating Dbspace
Posted in 2000
Ted couldn't create a ~2GB dbspace on a cooked file (IFX OnLine 7.23.UC1, Solaris 2.6); the free-space check failed at around 1GB. Responders asked for the exact onspaces command and error codes, and suggested the Informix user's ulimit might be capped at 1GB (only root can raise it). Ted then ran 'onspaces -c -d datadbs1 -p /db02/forseti/datachk1 -o 0 -s 2000000' from the command line and it worked fine, so the limitation appeared to be a glitch in onmonitor rather than the OS.

I am trying to create a new dbspace with a size of ~2Gig. When I specify the path to the cooked file to use it tries to verify the disk free space and always fails at around 1 gig. I know that I have plenty of free space on the disk so I can't figure out what the problem is. Informix Online Server 7.23.UC1 on Solaris 2.6. Ted,
Can you post your onspaces command?

Is it possible that the Informix login has a ulimit set to maximum 1GB
files? What is the error and ISAM or errno code? What onspaces command
line options did you supply?

Hi, I first tried to create through onmonitor. I then tried using
onspaces with the following command:
onspaces -c -d datadbs1 -p /db02/forseti/datachk1 -o 0 -s 2000000
onspaces is still running as I type this and so far the chunk size is
1.8 gigs so I assume there is some glitch in onmonitor. I have
certainly learned my lesson!
Thanks for your help!

Hi, I first tried with onmonitor then I tried with onspaces (which I
should have done before posting, sorry!) and onspaces worked fine. I
will try command line utilities from now on <doh>
Thanks for your help!
Ted.

You need to have Your UNIX system admin raise ulimit, Sounds as though it is set to 1Gb. ulimit is a UNIX parameter that prevents a user from creating a file in the filesystem larger than the size specified by ulimit. to check ulimit simply type ulimit only root may raise ulimit On Tue, 30 May 2000 20:58:17 GMT, tslusser@bigfoot.com wrote: >I am trying to create a new dbspace with a size of ~2Gig. The problem Ted describes looks like a bug or something else. But you want to move him to 8.3 cause of a bug? Do you know, what a 8.3 server is? and also 9.30 beta is a stupd option. He has no problems with 2 Gig size limit. He has a problem, that he is not able to create spaces over 1 Gig! This is supported since 4.x. Wile
