I get the following when I do an onstat -d
INFORMIX-OnLine Version 7.20.UC2 -- On-Line -- Up 00:34:15 -- 10544 Kbytes
Dbspaces
address number flags fchunk nchunks flags owner name
a2aa100 1 2 1 2 M informix rootdbs
a2ab288 2 2 2 1 M informix itsinformix
a2ab608 10 1 12 3 N informix provldcr
a2ab678 11 2001 15 1 N T informix provtemp
4 active, 2047 maximum
Chunks
address chk/dbs offset size free bpages flags pathname
No response from server process.
Warning: blob chunk page usage statistics may be inaccurate.
I was running a stored procedure when I performed the onstat. The SP is
taking an unusually long amount of time.

Can you connect to the server? It looks like the engine may have crashed
but left shared memory alive. If you can connect and select from a table,
say systables in ANY database, then it may just be an old bug. Early 7.2
versions had some trouble traversing the dynamic data structures on SMP
machines. You may want to look in the log for messages about virtual
processors dying and grep the ps output for oninit processes with no
parent (there should only be one which is the parent of about half of the
others). Any of this points to a server that should have crashed but did
not. A situation that always reminds me of a poster my dad used to have
in his store about deceased employees failing to fall down.... Sometime
in this case, you can use onmode -ky to shutdown but sometimes you just
have to kill -PIPE the oninits and then use onmode -ky or ipcrm to clean
up shared memory.
