The orig config for env variable path is to point to /var /... /usr/... and /opt/... and of course our beloved informix path. I'd like to limit this to just the /informix path. Q: Does informix NEED access to these other paths or was this just something the install folks overlooked? Can I safely eliminate this? tia

This is the user's (whoever's environment you're looking at) search path for all executables. If you delete the paths to the other bin directories, you won't have much luck running anything. In other words, no, don't eliminate them.
