Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Ed Brown asked how to interpret coltype and collength in syscolumns, especially for money, decimal and datetime. A poster pointed to the Informix Guide to SQL: Reference, and Paul Watson said the manual and a demo-directory program could translate them into DDL. Art S. Kagel pointed to 4GL and ESQL/C functions in the IIUG repository and to the source of his myschema utility. Answered with references.

Does anyone know, or know where I could find, information on how to
intrepret the coltype and collength columns of the syscolumns system catalog
table? Some of the values are obvious, some aren't (especially collength for
money, decimal, datetime, etc.).
thanks in advance,
Ed Brown
Try with
Informix Guide to SQL: Reference, December 1999

RTFM is a good one, also there is/was in the demo directory some code
that would translate these in to DDL for you
Most of the standard Informix resource sites have something that will
convert the collength/coltype into english

In addition to the references given already: In the IIUG Repository are
two functions to do that interpretation one in 4GL the other in ESQL/C and
you can look at the main file of the source to my dbschema replacement
utility, myschema, myschema.ec, which is in the package utils2_ak and see
how it is done there.
