Data migration between servers using different versions of HPUX

Here's the scenario . . . Current server: HP K200 Current OS: HPUX 10.20 Current IDS: 7.30.uc7 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- New server: HP L2000 New OS: HPUX 11.0 New IDS: 7.30.uc7 (upgrade later) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- We're getting a new server for our financial system in house with a new OS. I need to be able to move data from the current system to the new system. Here is the scorecard so far: * HPL -- Under normal circumstances, I use HPL to handle all my reorgs (at the dbspace level), so the data is unloaded in the binary format -- very quickly, I might add. But a change in the OS would cause problems with this process, wouldn't it? * Unload and reload (ASCII) -- slow but doable. * Backup and restore -- not possible across OSes * Others??? Ideally, I'd like to be able to generate a script that would access my database schemas on the current box and recreate all objects (tables, indices, constraints) on the new system, preferably in parallel. (Yes, a network connection is possible.) Any tried-and-true methodologies welcome . . . . Hi John,
I guess it's not really a problem to move your
data between both systems - the data should be
binary compatible. HPL would be worth a try.
Only if this will not work I would suggest a
tool called "ifddt". This utility can
unload and copy databases, single tables,
or a set of tables. It uses real extent sizes and
can calculate extent sizes depending on
the monthly growth of the tables. Some
other advantages of "ifddt":
- creates the largest tables first
- performs sorted unload if the table
has a clustured index
- creates clustured indexes before loading
- creates all other indexes finally
- corrects extent sizes for system-tables
- reports how much KB are neccessary for each
dbspace before you run the load/copy
- doesn't run the commands immediately but
creates a SQL-script file that can be run
by "dbaccess"
- creates tables on demand in other dbspaces
or creates the tables in a set of dbspaces
so that the data is balanced across the dbspaces
( large tables will be fragmented automatically ).
Disadvantage: "ifddt" is not for free.
Best regards,
Stefan

I don't this Java tool can solve 100% of your problem but at least it will move your data easily across platforms and databases. Try JSync, www.idera.com Amy In article <915o7b$cfp$1@news.xmission.com>, John Carlson <John_Carlson@whsmithusa.com> wrote: > > Here's the scenario . . . > > Current server: HP K200 > Current OS: HPUX 10.20 > Current IDS: 7.30.uc7 > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > New server: HP L2000 > New OS: HPUX 11.0 > New IDS: 7.30.uc7 (upgrade later) > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > > We're getting a new server for our financial system in house with a new OS. > I need to be able to move data from the current system to the new system. > Here is the scorecard so far: > > * HPL -- Under normal circumstances, I use HPL to handle all my reorgs > (at the dbspace level), so the data is unloaded in the binary format - - very > quickly, I might add.
