Future of SE ?

What do you think INFORMIX will do with SE (standard engine) ? Will they continue to support it, to devellope it ? Should we migrate to on-line or dynamic server ? SE is enough for our needs, it is cheaper than dynamic server and doesn't need administration. I'm alone to do every thing, analysing ,programming , teaching the users ... (I don't wash the floor but ...), so I wouldn't like to have to administrate our bases.
I don't think it will get any of the bleeding edge technology, but I don't think it will go away. It's too useful for small companies who don't need much. I could be wrong, though. It's happened once before. In article <8m44ju$t07$1@reader1.fr.uu.net>, "Christophe MAUMONT" <informatique@univitis.fr> wrote: > What do you think INFORMIX will do with SE (standard engine) ? We try to migrate our customers to IDS even the small ones because it's safer and has fast recovery. We have lots of problems with corrupted indexes and others with SE, especially when they have remote connections ... Yes IDS is tooooo expensive, besides that, It's mandatory to pay an abusive OPEN LINE service for a year, very useless and difficult to justifying to our customers ... That's the truth ... see Oracle and others ... I don't know, but I love Informix SE because it's simple, and because it is OK if all you need to have is a database that has to be online only between office hours (9 to 5). In addition, the 4GL or ESQL or Perl DBI programs you write with SE, can also made to work with a more powerful database as IDS. -- David Stes Molenstraat 5 B-2018 Antwerpen, Vlaanderen, Belgie Tel +32 3 237 43 54 Fax +32 3 237 40 76 Email stes@pandora.be
