Windows 98 Dialup and IConnect 2.2

I've got a strange problem and I figured this might be the best place to start with trying to solve it. I've got a machine with Windows 98 installed on it and the IConnect 2.2 client installed on it. When the machine is attached to our local network I can talk to our informix server (7.24 ) just fine using the onsoctcp protocol. When I disconnect from our network and dial into another network with a different informix server and try and connect I get a return code of -25590 witch from the docs says that its an authenticaion error. Problem is I know that the id/password are correct - because using an NT machine I can connect just fine to the same dial in server and Informix server. So my question, does anybody have any thoughts on what is going on here. I am going to pose the same question to Microsoft to see if there is something going on with the dial-up stuff but I thought I would ask here as well. Thanks in advance.
