If you are absolutely sure that the engine has stopped doing anything you
make like try to stop and restart it. I have no idea why this sometimes
clears it but it does work. But, and its a big but, only if the engine has
stop doing anything.

Having just started a job where there is a considerable Oracle presence I
find myself amazed just how poor Oracle (7) appears to be.
