I dont know much about this sort of thing. Got info from diffrent web sites
I have installed the
register bts.2.00
onconfig has
SBSPACENAME sblobspace1 # Default smartblob space name - this is where blobs
in some notes
here
https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/mydeveloperworks/blogs/idsteam/entry/bts_blad
e_part_two_setup?lang=en
i see you
create an external space for your BTSindex. This is accomplished by the
following
onspaces -c -x extdbs -l >path>
2 things
1 i did this but cant see any space why not ?
2. Do we need to do this or can we add space to the instance in the normal way

Response:
1) I don't believe external spaces show up in any onstats, but there's a query
you would run to see them.
2) I believe in bts 2 you can put your bts indexes in external spaces or smart
blobs. If you put them in smartblobs then obviously you'd have to add the
smartblob space and you'd see it in your onstat -d.
I haven't played around much with bts, but when I've had to you can look at
this link:
http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm
.dbext.doc%2Fids_dbxt_175.htm
and check out the preparing for basic text searching..it looks like it shows
both for putting your bts index in smart blob spaces, or external spaces.

thanks for that information We dont want to use bts but unfortunately sde 10 wants an entry be put in the dbtune.sde file for it
Hi Karl,
Version 1 of BTS (IDS 11.10) only used extspaces to store the index. This
essentially stored the index in files in the operating system separate from
the database. In Version 2, we provided support to store the bts index
values in an sbspace. At the minimum, you need a default sbspace created
and specified in the SBSPACENAME onconfig variable where the where BTS
metadata is maintained. With BTS 2.00 you can specify a storage clause on
the index, so the index can be stored in a specific sbspaces or fragmented
across several sbspaces. If no storage clause is specified, the index will
be created in the default sbspace. We strongly urged users to move to
using sbspaces because that are part of the database and do not need, for
example, to be backed up separately. We have kept extspace support for
backward capability but we strongly encourage users to only use sbspaces.
You asked:
1 i did this but cant see any space why not ?
An extspace does not show up with tools like onstat -d because its is
not a dbspace or an sbspace and not part of the database.
2 we need to do this or can we add space to the instance in the normal way
No, you do not need and should not use extspaces with BTS in version
2.00. Go with sbspaces
I hope this helps.
My colleague Jacques Renaut gave a link to the BTS documentation
(http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v115/index.jsp?topic=%2Fco
m.ibm.dbext.doc%2Fids_dbxt_175.htm) which has a section on preparing to use
BTS in an IDS server. The good news going forward, in 11.70, we have
introduced the AutoReg Feature which will configure and register BTS on
first use. So there is no preparation needed to get started using BTS. It
also applies to types like Spatial and TimeSeries.

Thanks for that explanation Mark. all clear now We will use SBSPACENAME
