tape backup

hi,
i am a little concerned about my tape backup device. i have it set up on
channel 4 off the scsi card (adaptec 2940) on dev/st0.
there are no errors when i perform an ontape -s -L 0 *but* the archive
only takes a few seconds and the program returns that the database is
100% archived. when checking the tape i see that ontape is quite clearly
lying as no backup has been made. has anyone else had this problem, or
problems generally with tape devices (surestore tape 6000), as i am a
little flumoxed :}

...and now, you're gonna dance like you've never danced before...
1. How does the tape device respond to System backups?
2. Change TAPEDEV to a unix file (full path, 660, informix:informix) and
check whether ontape does its job.

Looks to me like the ONCONFIG file parameter TAPEDEV is pointing to
/dev/null rather than to /dev/st0!
