RE: Physical Log Size (Error Updating Table Structure)

Version: IDS 7.31.UC8
Size of table in MB: 240MB
# Logical logs 20 Size 2000K
Physical log size 50000k
LTXHWM: 50
LTXEHWM: 60
I tried setting logging to unbuffered logging via ontape and updating
the table but I got the same error: -458 Long transaction aborted.
I am trying to update a field in the table from a Char(50) to a
VarChar(250). Any help is appreciated.

I am trying to update the structure on a table that has approx
1.8million records and I get an error that my log size is too small. Is
there any formula to determine how large I need to make the log to
accommodate this change and is there any correlation between the
physical log size and the number and size of the logical logs?
Currently physical log size is 50000

It looks like you have some flexibility to change the logging mode of the
database, at least temporarily. In that case, one option to try would be to
change the logging mode to no logging and try, then set the logging mode to
what you want.
Another option is to set the table type to raw and try, then change the
table type to standard "ALTER TABLE tablename TYPE (STANDARD)". Raw tables
do not log.

You need to add more logical logs, or split your update up into smaller
tranches.
