I guess the original post meant that raw device names had been used for the chunk names, rather than links (which, incidentally, Informix recommends) and that the chunk had been defined as 600MB rather than the whole 1GB? I really couldn't tell, from the original post. If the chunk had been defined as 600MB using links, not actual device names, you could copy the chunk (using dd) to the other slice, and change the link to point to the new device (with the engine off-line). That's as easy as it gets. If the chunk was defined using actual device names, depending on the actual drives and other stuff, you MIGHT be able to move the empty 600 MB partition so that it became the correct device name. You'd have to physically switch the disks around. This is NOT very easy. (Well, maybe it is.) If your original chunk was defined as 1GB but only 600MB is used, there isn't anything you can do but export the chunk.
