I need help with GLS support. I have to build a few DBthat will contain strings with spanish characters like the acute vocals and n-tilde. How does GLS work, and how do I set it up? in generally: nothing.
You can store all characters within the database. You get it back from
the server, as well.
You have to use GLS if you want to:
1) use localized characters in your table names
2) do sorts in localized order
For that cases, you have to set your environment variables:
DB_LOCALE=es_es.819 (before creating database)
CLIENT_LOCALE=es_es.819 (before connecting database)
You have to use nchar and nvarchar instead of char and varchar.
If it is enough to display/enter spanisch dates and times, you
can set DBTIME and DBDATE.
Hope this helps a little bit,
Wile

just set your DB_LOCALE to an appropriate flavor of spanish, e.g. sp_sp.8859-1,
and then you can launch dbaccess to create the database.
