ids 9.2 linux

Hi, I have Informix Dynamic Server for Linux 9.2 and have dbaccess etc (everything on the local machine) working. Odbc does not work. I installed IDS with the Universal Data Option. On the win98 side I am using ivif7912.dll DataDirect version 3.01.0007 filedate 2/6/98 Intersolv 3.01 32 bit Informix. I am getting error -930 or -908 both mean simply - connection failed or connection refused. I am using 1525 onsoctcp sqlexec, I can ping the two machines etc. Any ideas? Which odbc dll is recommended? Also onmonitor won't let me set an alias in Parameters, which I need for odbc ($INFORMIXDIR/sqlhosts and /etc/services). Also I get these funny error messages filling the screen whenever I bring the server online: dupfd: fd 1048, max 1024 dupfd: fd 1047, max 1024 dupfd: fd 1046, max 1024 etc Aparently I have something set to 1024 which should be at least 1048 - but what?
