Hi!
lets do a poll here, anyone who is running IDS 7.30 on linux dual-processor
machine raise his hand, by mail, pls. Peter's mail was shocking. To install
or not to install IDS 7.30 with this hw, Hamlet.

I'm using IDS 7.30.UC7 on a dual CPU Dell 410 without any obvious problems.
I don't recall whether I've set MULTIPROCESSOR or SINGLE_CPU_VP and
so on. I am conservative, so I normally set MULTIPROCESSOR when there
are multiple processors on the machine, simply to ensure that it uses
appropriate locking. On my boxes, I usually set SINGLE_CPU_VP etc because
I don't want any one OnLine system eating too much of my resources -- or
of the other two or three OnLine systems also running on the machine.
I doubt if I've done anything that would notice the problems, though.
I'm logging to /dev/null, and I don't think I've run ontape.
Of course, there's a bigger question: why is anyone running ontape -c to
/dev/null? If you set the log device to /dev/null in $ONCONFIG, OnLine
handles the log backups anyway! Maybe ontape recognizes that it is doing
nothing and goes away in disgust.
