Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Whilst doing a level 0 archive on my new 7.31 install, I got:
Archive failed - function write to tape failed code -1 errno 5
This happened several times across 2 different tapes.
DDS3/125 DAT tape. Any ideas?
TAPEBLK 128 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
TAPESIZE 12582912 # Maximum amount of data to put ontape (Kbytes)

I've seen this happen when your database temp dbspace fills up during the
archive. If you can recreate the error, run a script in a loop
to watch your temp dbspace chunk "fullness" during the archive.
I just do a date; onstat -d every 10 seconds, grep out the temp chunks, and
write the output to a file. If my archive fails, I look at the
informix log for the time of the failure and compare it to the time in
the file my script wrote. You may need more temp dbspace or chunks.
