HDR setup- Network driver system error
Posted in 2011
Setting up HDR between two IDS 11.50.FC5 instances on HP-UX, 'ontape -p' on the secondary failed at boot with "listener-thread: err = -25572... Network driver cannot bind a name to the port" (oserr 226) and ASF_LISTEN failed. Suggestions included missing/mismatched /etc/services entries and duplicated aliases, but Madison Pruet's hint proved correct: a previous aborted 'ontape -p' had left oninit -r processes still holding the port. Killing those stale processes let HDR start with no config changes. Also noted: SERVERNUM need only be unique per machine, and HDR requires a network (SQLI) connection, not shared memory.

Sounds like the service name was not entered into /etc/services on the
secondary.

nike_SP is a shared memory connection and hence not in /etc/services Is repeating DBSERVERNAME in DBSERVERALIASES an issue or just not good practise. I have repeated this in the past and the HDR has worked correctly. Not sure what I am missing or where the mismatch is in this setup!! Thanks.
Art, I have verified the secondary's /etc/services with sqlhosts and onconfig (see original post). I have two questions: 1. Can I use the same SERVERNUM value if the primary and secondary are on distinct boxes? 2. Can I use a shared memory connection name in DBSERVERALIASES in HDR? If the answers are 'yes' to both, then I am not sure where the problem is with my current setup. Thank you.
You might get an error like this because the socket is still in use. That
can sometimes happen when IDS is brought down and the TCP socket was in a
hung state so that the socket was not completely closed..

My HDR is running correctly now. Thank you all.
Madison was right. A previous aborted attempt at 'ontape -p' had left a number
of 'oninit -r' running still listening to the port that the fresh instance of
'ontape -p' was trying to connect.
I killed those sessions and HDR was established with no changes to any of my
settings.
Yes, servernum just has to be unique on each machine. No, you cannot use a shared memory connection for HDR, nor can you use a stream pipe (onipcstr) connection. The connection between instances for HDR, SDS, RSS, and ER has to be a network connection (and IB that it has to be an SQLI type connection not DRDA). Art Art S. Just to be clear. You cannot use a shared memory connection in HDR, etc as DBSERVERNAME. You may use it in DBSERVERALIASES. My HDR is operational. I have identified the problem ( with tips from Madison) and posted below.
Just to explain Art's response just a bit. The main usage of the servernum is to create the key used to create shared memory. If you have two instances running on the same machine, you must have different servernums because they need to create different shared memory segment keys.
