Why cant I create a database in a dbspace ?
Posted in 2012
User unable to create a database in a custom 128GB dbspace named "datadbs" on Informix 11.70.FC6 Developer Edition (Windows 7). The dbspace was created and visible on disk, but didn't appear in dbaccess or dbspaces list, and CREATE DATABASE commands failed. Suggested cause: Developer Edition has an 8GB storage limit. Thread ends with diagnostic questions (onstat -d output, how dbspace was added, error messages) but no resolution recorded.

11.70.FC6 Developer Edition on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit:
Downloaded via IIUG link and installed it.
I created a custom DSS instance named "server" with a 128GB dbspace named
"datadbs".
Install wizard created a Windows user "informix".
I connected to instance "server", logging in as "informix".
Executed an SQL script "CREATE DATABASE voters IN datadbs NLSCASE INSENSITIVE;"
This failed, then tried creating the db via dbaccess menu.
In dbaccess, dbspaces options did not show "datadbs", only root, phys, log &
sbs dbs', but when I do a dir of the dbspaces it shows "datadbs" with 107GB.
I set the following values in "onconfig.server", but still no dice!
DBCREATE_PERMISSION informix
DBCREATE_PERMISSION public
#DB_LIBRARY_PATH
IFX_EXTEND_ROLE 1
SECURITY_LOCALCONNECTION 0
UNSECURE_ONSTAT 0
ADMIN_USER_MODE_WITH_DBSA 1
ADMIN_MODE_USERS public
SSL_KEYSTORE_LABEL
Don't know if this is the case here, Frank but looking at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/data/library/techarticle/dm-0801doe/ it
shows that developer edition only supports 8 Gig of storage.

David, I created another test dbspace of only 2GB and still cant access it from the instance. I even tried logging in as a non-admin user and same result. I can see both the 128 and 2GB spaces from win cmd prompt, checked their permissions and it all looks ok. If dev edition is "limited to 8GB", then why would it allow me to create a 128GB without complaining?
It was a thought. I knew the limit is there, just didn't know how it is enforced. -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of FRANK J. Do you see datadbs I the onstat -d report or in sysmaster:sysdbspaces?
How did you add the datadbs dbspace?

A "dir"? What do you see with an onstat -d?
