MIRROROFFSET 0My chunks are cooked files.
I reinitialize the engine, but my mirror chunk is down, then and the I take
a level 0 backup and restart the engine, but, the same thing, my mirror
backup is still down.

Use the onspaces command to get the mirror back up. Examine the "Changing Chunk Status"
section of the onspaces command.
However, that is not going to help if you have a fundamental problem with the concerned
device. . Make sure that it has the correct permissions - owner/group "informix", 660.
Ensure that the filesystem that its located in has enough space.
BTW, if your device is cooked, what's it doing in the /dev directory?
Also, post your "onstat -d" output.
