If you have free disks, a simpler approach may be available.
For each path which resides on a failing disk,
1) Copy the underlying AIX logical volume to a "good" disk drive using
the "mklvcopy" command;
2) If the copying (or mirroring) is successful, remove the failing
copy using the "rmlvcopy" command.
If these steps are successful, you have moved your database without losing
access to the underlying data.
Next, you can now prepare the failing SSA disk(s) for removal by:
* Unmount all file systems residing on the failing disk(s).
* Remove the disks from the volume group. (smitty reducevg)
* Remove the "hdisk" and "pdisk" from your AIX conifiguration
("rmdev -dl" commands).
Good luck.

Subject: NEED HELP : Informix and replacement of an SSA disk exercise
Hi everyone.
Need help in this exercise. I have a RS6000 G40 with Aix 4.3.2 with
Informix IDS7.31UC4, ISQL 7.20
and 4GL RDS 7.20. The informix main directory is in the main disk (non
SSA) and the database dbspace
contains lots of chunks where some chunks of the same dbspaces are in
this SSA and the rest in other
disks.
This SSA disk has a degradation problem and need to be replace. It will
be done by an IBM CE. That
is why we had problem doing ontape -s backup giving the error :
"Archive failed-ISAM error. An error has occured during archive backup"
In the end, in the error report (errpt) for aix, it is a SSA disk
failure.
We tried dbexport and it was ok. We not sure how the dbimport would be.
The question is that worries me is that what should be done on the
Informix portion during this SSA
disk replacement exercie??
I was panning on this :
- dbexport the database using dbexport dbname -ss
- system backup on the OS
- capture the informix details - onconfig, sqlhosts, onstat -d,
databases, log files,
- IBM CE will migrate the disk contents & we test the informix and
application
- If there is problem, need to recreate the engine, dbpaces, chunks,
logs etc
- reinitialize informix
- dbimport database
If anyone has better suggestions, please help me here. Thank you very
much.
