What prevents a RSS to roll forward as fast as its primary?
Hi, Sometimes due to the syncronization points I mentioned having LESS apply threads can be faster. Try OFF_RECVRY_THREADS 31, 23,17,11 and see which comes out best. Also try SEC_APPLY_POLLTIME 100 and 50 and 0. When the lag happens send onstat -g cluster on the primary (*) onsta…
Potentially Serious HDR Bug 14.10.FC7W1
All: I wanted to make you aware of something we've hit a couple of times and also find out if someone else has encountered it. Twice in the past few months, I've had DR Ping faliures on our HDR primary which seem to have left the cluster in an unstable state. It's as if the prima…
Bizarre CM/Connectivity Issue on 12.10.FC14
All: I've opened a case on this behavior, but I'm wondering if anyone else here can replicate it. We recently updated our production cluster from a patched version of 12.10.FC12 (W1X1) to 12.10.FC14. After the upgrade, I noticed that certain queries were hanging. The common eleme…

Chunk Space Issue
IDS does not release space from deleted records to the common pool of free space. The freed data slots, or even whole pages or extents are free within the table that owns them for reuse when inserting new rows to that table, but cannot be used by other tables and so is not shown …
Free Extents
It's a conundrum allright. Just because you've deleted data from a page does not mean that that page frees up. You have 10 rows on a full page. You delete rows 5 and 6. That space cannot be used until the page is compressed and rewritten (so that rows 7,8,910 become (effectively…

Can not cluster index...
Note that to build a cluster index IDS requires to create another copy of the tables sorted by the index columns. Thus if your table is xG then you need at least xG free in the same dbspace. (to check the size of the table use oncheck -pt <dbname>:<table>). You can also be runni…
RE: AIX and Informix
The best practice is leave an offset on AIX logical volume if you use it as a raw device for Informix. The reason is the first block is used to host information or meta data about the logical volume including the LVID. This information is also hosted in the ODM which is a kind on…
Re: AIX and Informix
Hi, With regard to an ROOTOFFEST of zero. This is because the LVM uses the first 4 Byte for information. If you use a root offset of zero is used, and any LVM work is done, like a lv copy for example, the 4 Bytes will be written back to the device, resulting in the engine fail…

RE: AIX and Informix
If memory serves me correctly IBM does write some of the LV data in the first 512 bytes of the volume. Now that data is accessed very rawly and is written when you issue some system commands which manages the LVs. I am not sure which commands. I think when you fail/fall over usi…

Re: Determining free space.
Deleting rows from a table only frees pages for reuse within that table it does not return space to the dbspace's free pool for use by other tables and so, as you are seeing, the free space does not show up in onstat -d. If the tables that were cleaned up are not the only ones t…

A lot on the number of cpuvps depends on the number of threads in the ready queue. If the ready queue has several threads on it, then you might consider adding another cpuvp. (onstat -g rea). Where are your client programs running? If the clients are running on the same physi…

For a DSS system it's better to decrease BUFFERS and increase SHMVIRTSIZE and MAXIMIZE DS_TOTAL_MEMORY for PDQ. This will induce the engine to use more light scans and avoid the LRU algorithm in the resident memory. What about the table's framentation scheme? Have you used clus…

Hi! If I understood the problem correctly, running tbcheck will still report dbspace is full, since space used by deleted rows has not been 'reclaimed'. One easy way to do this 'reclamation' is to add a cluster index (or change an existing one to cluster), or do any 'alter table…

Re: Gradual Performance Drop on 7.23.UC1 x86
