informix views
here is the question: how informix (ON-LINE) processes queries involving views? it seems to me that it first materializes the view and than executes selections... it would be much better to perform string substitution first and than materialize the view using only a subse…

We are trying to use I-star to make a useable view of a remote Informix database. The view has been created but only the view *owner* can use it. We have contacted Informix tech support to no avail. If you have successfully used I-star to make a view of a remote database, pleas…

Two index query optimization problem
I'm having some problems with Informix over optimizing my query. I have a table with > 500000 rows and I can't get Informix to use what I deem to be the "correct" index. There are two indexes on the table: index1: unique index on A, B; index2: unique index on C, D, A, B; …

I am losing an argument with isql 4.10. I hope someone out with more experience with this system will be able to steer me in the right direction. I have a bucketload of time series data (1600+ channels of hourly building energy use data) currently modeled as one table per channe…

QUERY Optimizer
Hi netters I have observed that the optimizer (SQL 4.0 and an On-Line 4.0 DB) is very often guessing wrong, even if we run update statistics. The estimated number of rows returned does very much depend on the sequence in which you enter the SELECT statement. In one case we had …
